In Memoriam: Dr. Garrett Deckel
It is with broken hearts that we share the news that Dr. Garrett Deckel passed away unexpectedly on October 8th.
Garrett was instrumental to Innerwell's founding and launch as our clinical director and supervisor. Her contribution to Innerwell’s treatment protocol, the recruitment of our clinical team, and supervision of our clinicians is indelible, and the groundwork she laid has impacted and will continue to impact many lives for the better.
We will always remember Garrett’s thoughtfulness and astuteness as a psychiatrist, her dedication to caring for the most vulnerable patients, her quiet sense of humor, and her gentle spirit. She was steadfastly committed to clinical rigor and safety while delivering compassionate care.
Garrett was initially skeptical of me (Lisa) as a non-clinical businessperson, and early on she spent time testing my intentions and ensuring that Innerwell’s ethos were aligned with hers. We spent hours together testing our “fit”. I’ll never forget those early days when Garrett challenged my ethics and intentions while I tested her commitment to building a next generation data-driven practice. She held a mighty intellectual sword. Garrett’s fingerprints can be seen in everything we do here at Innerwell. I can only hope we rise to her challenge. We will miss her unwavering sincerity and empathic nature.
